Body
WHEREAS, the Cherokee Nation since time immemorial has exercised the sovereign rights of self-government in behalf of the Cherokee people;
 
WHEREAS, the Cherokee Nation is a federally recognized Indian Nation with a historic and continual government to government relationship with the United States of America;
 
WHEREAS, the Cherokee Nation has established the Environmental Protection Commission and the Environmental Programs Group to protect public health, welfare, and the environment;
 
WHEREAS, the Cherokee Nation has previously received funding for the Clean Water 106 Program;
 
WHEREAS, with the award of proper funding, the Cherokee Nation Environmental Programs will continue to expand and monitor surface waters within the Cherokee Nation jurisdiction.
 
BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CHEROKEE NATION, that the Tribal Council hereby authorizes Cherokee Nation Environmental Programs to submit a formal application to the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency for a 2012 Clean Water 106 Project, and that the Principal Chief (or his designee) shall be authorized to conduct contract negotiations and execute all official documents in this regard.
