A RESOLUTION RECOGNIZING REVEREND CHARLES O. WALKER AS A FRIEND OF THE CHEROKEE NATION
Body
WHEREAS, the Cherokee Nation since time immemorial has exercised the sovereign rights of self-government in behalf of the Cherokee people;
 
WHEREAS, the Cherokee Nation is a federally recognized Indian Nation with a historic and continual government to government relationship with the United States of America;
 
WHEREAS, Rev. Charles O. Walker, a lifelong resident Georgia, has spent many years researching the historic sites and home places of Cherokees who were removed from Georgia;
 
WHEREAS, Rev. Charles O. Walker has written numerous articles and books about the Cherokees in Georgia including Cherokee Images and three volumes of Cherokee Footprints;
 
WHEREAS, Rev. Charles O. Walker is an accomplished artist and his drawings of Cherokee sites and homes are part of many permanent exhibits including those at New Echota, the Vann House, and the Trail of Tears exhibit at the Cherokee Heritage Center.
 
BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CHEROKEE NATION, that Nation hereby recognizes Rev. Charles O. Walker as a Friend of the Cherokee Nation for his many accomplishments in preserving Cherokee History.
