A RESOLUTION AUTHORIZING THE PLACEMENT OF LAND IN TRUST - SKELLY ILLINOIS RIVER 86.3 ACRES

Body

WHEREAS, the Cherokee Nation since time immemorial has exercised the sovereign rights of self-government in behalf of the Cherokee people;

 

WHEREAS, the Cherokee Nation is a federally recognized Indian Nation with a historic and continual government to government relationship with the United States of America;

 

WHEREAS, Cherokee Nation has acquired a property in northwestern Adair County known as  Skelly Illinois River 86.3 acre.   The tract is timber and lies adjacent to the Illinois River.   The property is vacant.  The Adair County property is further described as follows:

 

Indian Meridian, Oklahoma

 

Township 19 North, Range 24 East,

                     

   Section 11                     BEGINNING AT A POINT at the NE corner of the NE1/4;

                     Thence, South 89° 54’ 23” West along the north line of Section 11 a distance of                      1469.38 feet to the centerline of the Illinois River;

                     THENCE, South 03° 19’ 46” East along the river a distance of 258.70 feet;

                     THENCE, South 40° 15’ 23” East a distance of 1023.25 feet along the river;

                     THENCE, South 54° 31’ 12” East a distance of 238.12 feet along the river;

                     THENCE, South 63° 52’ 14” East along the river a distance of 392.07 feet;

                     THENCE, North 65° 19’ 54” East along the river a distance of 268.13 feet to the east                      line of Section 11;

WHEREAS, Cherokee Nation desires to transfer fee title to United States of America in Trust for Cherokee Nation under the provisions of Title 25 of the Code of Federal Regulations. 

 

BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CHEROKEE NATION, that the Principal Chief of Cherokee Nation, Bill John Baker, and/or his authorized designee(s) be authorized to request the Secretary of the Interior to place said tracts of land in Trust for Cherokee Nation in accordance with Bureau of Indian Affairs policy and procedure for the acquisition of land.
