A RESOLUTION AUTHORIZING THE PLACEMENT OF LAND IN TRUST - ACME AND VICTORY CEMETERY
Body
WHEREAS, the Cherokee Nation since time immemorial has exercised the sovereign rights of self-government in behalf of the Cherokee people;
 
WHEREAS, the Cherokee Nation is a federally recognized Indian Nation with a historic and continual government to government relationship with the United States of America;
 
WHEREAS, Cherokee Nation has acquired property in Tulsa County, Oklahoma, more particularly described as follows:
 
ACME tract:
 
All that part of the NE4 of Section 20, Township 22 North, Range 14 East of the Indian Base and Meridian, Tulsa County, State of Oklahoma, more particularly described as follows, to-wit:
East 275 feet of the SE4 SW4 NE4; E2 SE4 NW4 NE4; and the N2 SW4 NE4,
AND
All that part of the E2 NE4 described as follows:
BEGINNING at the Northwest corner of the SE4 NE4; thence East 327 feet; thence South 3°38' East 511 feet; thence South 3° 18' East 280.8 feet; thence East 210 feet; thence South 200 feet; thence East 60 feet to the East line of the W2 SE4 NE4; thence South 330 feet to the South line of the SE4 NE4 of said Section; thence West 660 feet; thence North 1320 feet to Place of Beginning.
AND
A part of the SE4 NE4 described as follows:
Beginning at the Southwest corner of the SE4 NE4 and running thence North 142.5 feet; thence Southeasterly with a right curve of 8°59' to the South line of the SE4 SE4 NE4; thence West 209.3 feet to Beginning.
 
Victory Cemetery tract:       
 
A tract of land in the S2 SW4 NE4 of Section 20, Township 22 North, Range 14 East, I.B.&M., Tulsa County, Oklahoma, more particu1arly described as follows, to-wit: Commencing at the NW corner of said S2 SW4 NE4; Thence S 89° 40' 01" E a distance of 1,016.40 feet to the Point of Beginning;
Thence S 89° 40' 01" E 28.96 feet; Thence S 0° 00' 42" W 334.93 feet; Thence N 89° 40' 01" W 30.84 feet; Thence N 00° 19' 59" E  334.92 feet to the Point of Beginning, containing 0.23 acres more or less for cemetery purposes.
AND
Beginning at a point 30 chains south and 10.40 chains east of the quarter section corner on the north boundary of Section 20, Township 22 North, Range 14 East; Thence south six chains; Thence east five chains; Thence north six chains; Thence west five chains to the point of beginning, lying in Section 20, Township 22 North, Range 14 East, I.B.&M., in Oklahoma, containing three 3 acres, more or less;
 
WHEREAS, Cherokee Nation desires to have said property placed United States of America in Trust for the Cherokee Nation.  The property is mostly vacant.   The occupied portion, a cemetery, is a permanent home to numerous deceased Cherokee.   Some of the tombstones date to the 1800's.   Additionally, the occupied portion of the property houses a community building and is used for a variety of public events.
 
BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CHEROKEE NATION, that the Principal Chief of the Cherokee Nation, Chadwick Smith, and/or his authorized designee(s) be authorized to request the Secretary of the Interior to place said tract of land United States of America in Trust for Cherokee Nation in accordance with Bureau of Indian Affairs policy and procedure for the acquisition of land.
