A RESOLUTION AUTHORIZING THE PLACEMENT OF LAND IN TRUST - TATE CHEWEY 135 ACRES IN ADAIR COUNTY

Body

WHEREAS, the Cherokee Nation since time immemorial has exercised the sovereign rights of self-government in behalf of the Cherokee people;

 

WHEREAS, the Cherokee Nation is a federally recognized Indian Nation with a historic and continual government to government relationship with the United States of America;

 

WHEREAS, Cherokee Nation acquired property in Adair County, Oklahoma located north of Chewy Road and east of the Illinois River.    The timbered property is on a hillside.  The Adair County property is further described as follows:

 

Indian Meridian, Oklahoma, Adair County

 

Township 19 North, Range 24 East,

 

Sections 15, 16, 21, & 22,                     A tract of land situated in Sections 15, 16, 21, and 22,                      more particularly described as follows:

 

                     Commencing at the Northwest corner of said Section 22;

                     Thence South 00°03’30” West along the West line of said Section 22 a                      distance of 416.12 feet;

                     Thence North 53°56’29” West a distance of 27.52 feet to the POINT OF                      BEGINNING;

WHEREAS, Cherokee Nation desires to transfer fee title to United States of America in Trust for Cherokee Nation under the provisions of Title 25 of the Code of Federal Regulations. 

 

BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CHEROKEE NATION, that the Principal Chief of Cherokee Nation, Bill John Baker, and/or his authorized designee(s) be authorized to request the Secretary of the Interior to place said tracts of land in Trust for Cherokee Nation in accordance with Bureau of Indian Affairs policy and procedure for the acquisition of land.
