A RESOLUTION AUTHORIZING THE BOYS AND GIRLS CLUB(S) OF TAHLEQUAH, GREEN COUNTRY, SEQUOYAH COUNTY, DELAWARE COUNTY, NOWATA, AND CHELSEA, TO PARTICIPATE AND ACCEPT FUNDING ON BEHALF OF THE COMMUNITY FROM THE DEPARTMENT OF JUSTICE, OFFICE OF JUSTICE PROGRAMS TO SUPPORT THE BOYS & GIRLS CLUBS OF AMERICA'S PROGRAMS FOR YOUTH

WHEREAS, the Cherokee Nation, since time immemorial has exercised the sovereign rights of self-government in behalf of the Cherokee people;
WHEREAS, the Cherokee Nation is a federally recognized Indian Nation with a historic and continuing government to government relationship with the United States of America;
WHEREAS, the Cherokee Nation is empowered under the Constitution and Laws of the Cherokee Nation to promote and protect the health, peace, morals, education and general welfare of the Cherokee Nation, the communities and its citizens;
WHEREAS, the safety and well-being of the communities and its citizens is a high priority to the Cherokee Nation;
WHEREAS, the Department of Justice, Office of Justice Programs (OJP) provides grant funds through Boys & Girls Clubs of America to establish and implement programs for our youth that are not in competition with Tribal Grant Applications;
WHEREAS, the Boys & Girls Clubs of Tahlequah, Green Country Sequoyah County, Delaware County, Nowata and Chelsea were selected as a site in Indian Country to apply and participate in OJP funding through Boys & Girls Clubs of America;
WHEREAS, the Boys & Girls Clubs of Tahlequah, Green Country, Sequoyah County, Delaware County, Nowata and Chelsea will work with the OJP to establish the delivery of services to youth;
WHEREAS, the OJP will provide the Boys & Girls Clubs of Tahlequah, Green Country, Sequoyah County, Delaware County, Nowata and Chelsea with funding to assist in the implementation of the plans to include funding for staff, training and equipment;
WHEREAS, the Cherokee Nation has determined that it is in the best interest of the communities for the Boys & Girls Clubs of Tahlequah, Green Country, Sequoyah County, Delaware County, Nowata and Chelsea to participate in the OJP funded programs.
BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CHEROKEE NATION, that the Tribal Council hereby authorizes the Boys & Girls Clubs of Tahlequah, Green Country, Sequoyah County, Delaware County, Nowata and Chelsea to participate in and accept OJP funds on behalf of the communities to support these programs;
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED BY THE CHEROKEE NATION, that the Principal Chief is hereby authorized to sign any other documents or take any other necessary action to carry out the intent of this resolution.
