A JOINT COUNCIL RESOLUTION RECOGNIZING THE 1984 PARTICIPANTS OF THE RED CLAY JOINT COUNCIL

the Eastern Band of Cherokee Indians and the Cherokee Nation have exercised the sovereign rights of self-governance on behalf of the Cherokee People since time immemorial; and
the tradition of having a Joint Council between the Eastern Band of Cherokee Indians and the Cherokee Nation began on April 6 & 7, 1984; and
the purpose of this 1984 meeting was to rekindle and revive the bond between the two respective Nations, and the meeting theme for the event was "United We Stand"; and
the Joint Council tradition has continued for the past 25 years, and the purpose of meeting today in Red Clay is to celebrate the strength and friendship that resulted from these meetings; and
it is befitting that we express honor and gratitude to the Tribal leaders who began this tradition:

NOW, THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED by the Joint Council assembled, at which a quorum is present, the Eastern Band of Cherokee Indians and the Cherokee Nation hereby publicly recognize the above-named Tribal leaders, living and deceased. for beginning a valuable and memorable tradition that continues between our people.
BE IT FINALLY RESOLVED both Tribes jointly express deep appreciation to these Tribal leaders. living and deceased, for their foresight and diligent work on behalf of the Eastern Band of Cherokee Indians and the Cherokee Nation.
