A JOINT COUNCIL RESOLUTION REQUESTING THAT FINANCIAL PROCEEDS FROM SALE OF HYMNAL BOOKS BE DONATED TO THE EASTERN BAND OF THE CHEROKEE INDIAN IMMERSION PROGRAM AND THE CHEROKEE NATION IMMERSION PROGRAM
Body
WHEREAS, the Eastern Band of Cherokee Indians and the Cherokee Nation have exercised the sovereign rights of self-governance on behalf of the Cherokee People since time immemorial; and
WHEREAS, one of the most important components of our cultural identity is the existence and use of our Cherokee language. and today is an appropriate time to publicly express continued support for the revitalization of our Cherokee language; and
WHEREAS, the Red Clay Joint Council Programs and hymnals were printed to commemorate and celebrate the 25ffi Anniversary of the modern-day Red Clay Council meeting held in April of 1984; and
WHEREAS, it has been determined by the members of the Red Clay Planning Committee that proceeds from the sale of these items would be beneficial for the FBCI and Cherokee Nation Tribal Immersion Programs to assist in their endeavors to preserve our Native language: and
WHEREAS, these funds would be a one-time commemorative donation from the Eastern Band of Cherokee Indians and Cherokee Nation Tribal Council to the Tribal Immersion Programs that are funded and supported by the respective Tribal governments.
NOW, THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED by the Joint Council assembled, at which a quorum is present. the Eastern Band of Cherokee Indians and theCherokee Nation hereby approve the division of proceeds from the Red Clay Joint Council Programs and hymnals between the Eastern Band of Cherokee Indians and the Cherokee Nation Tribal Immersion Programs.
BE IT FINALLY RESOLVED these monies shall be used by the Tribal Immersion Programs to purchase supplies as necessary, and to support activities that will further enhance these program goals.
