Body
WHEREAS, the Cherokee Nation since time immemorial has exercised the sovereign rights of self-government in behalf of the Cherokee people;
 
WHEREAS, the Cherokee Nation is a federally recognized Indian Nation with a historic and continual government to government relationship with the United States of America;
 
WHEREAS, the Department of Housing and Urban Development, Office of Public and Indian Housing, is accepting funding applications for programs to help public and Indian housing residents attain economic and housing self-sufficiency;
 
WHEREAS, the Cherokee Nation has operated a ROSS program since it was transferred from the Housing Authority of the Cherokee Nation in 2003;
 
WHEREAS, there are many individuals in need of employment and training activities in order to enter jobs and become self-sufficient;
 
WHEREAS, Career Services has both the expertise and experience to develop and operate a high quality, successful program and desires to continue providing these services.
 
BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CHEROKEE NATION, that the Council hereby authorizes Career Services to develop and submit a grant application to the Department of Housing and Urban Development for a Resident Opportunity and Self-Sufficiency (ROSS) Family and Homeownership Program.
