WHEREAS, the Cherokee Nation since time immemorial has exercised the sovereign rights of self-government in behalf of the Cherokee people;
 
WHEREAS, the Cherokee Nation is a federally recognized Indian Nation with a historic and continual government to government relationship with the United States of America;
 
WHEREAS, the Department of Education, Office of Vocational and Adult Education, is accepting funding applications for programs to increase education levels of adults in vocational technology;
 
WHEREAS, the Cherokee Nation has operated an adult vocational education program funded through this office since 1991;
 
WHEREAS, there are many individuals in need of vocational education in order to enter jobs and become self-sufficient;
 
WHEREAS, Career Services has both the expertise and experience to develop and operate a high quality, successful program and desires to continue providing these services.
 
BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CHEROKEE NATION, that the Council hereby authorizes Career Services to develop and submit a grant application to the Department of Education for a Native American Career and Technical Education Program.
