Body
WHEREAS, the Cherokee Nation since time immemorial has exercised the sovereign rights of self-government in behalf of the Cherokee people;
 
WHEREAS, the Cherokee Nation is a federally recognized Indian Nation with a historic and continual government to government relationship with the United States of America;
 
WHEREAS, the Cherokee Nation has established the Environmental Protection Commission and the Environmental Programs Group to protect public health, welfare, and the environment;
 
WHEREAS, the Cherokee Nation has previously received funding from the EPA GAP Program;
 
WHEREAS, with the award of proper funding, the Cherokee Nation's General Assistance/Regional Priorities Program will continue to provide training courses, a Regional Tribal Environmental Summit as well as provide support for Regional Tribal Operations Committee Meetings.
 
BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CHEROKEE NATION, that the Tribal Council hereby authorizes Cherokee Nation Environmental Programs to submit a formal application to the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency for a 2011 Indian General Assistance/Regional Priorities grant package, and that the Principal Chief (or his designee) shall be authorized to conduct contract negotiations and execute all official documents in this regard.
