A RESOLUTION CONFIRMING SUPPORT FOR JOE DEERE AS CANDIDATE FOR REGIONAL VICE PRESIDENT OF THE NATIONAL CONGRESS OF AMERICAN INDIANS

Body

WHEREAS, the Cherokee Nation since time immemorial has exercised the sovereign rights of self-government on behalf of the Cherokee people; and

 

WHEREAS, the Cherokee Nation is a federally recognized Indian Nation with a historic and continual government to government relationship with the United States of America; and

 

WHEREAS, the mission of the National Congress of American Indians is to protect and enhance treaty and sovereign rights; secure our traditional laws, cultures, and ways of life for our descendants’ promote a common understanding of the rightful place of tribes in the family of American governments; and improve the quality of life for Native communities and peoples; and

 

WHEREAS, the Cherokee Nation is a member in good standing with the National Congress of American Indians (NCAI); and

 

WHEREAS, the Cherokee Nation meets all requirements for Tribal Membership, pursuant Article II-Membership, Section B of the Constitution and Bylaws of NCAI; and

 

WHEREAS, Joe Deere is a duly elected member of the Cherokee Nation Tribal Council and seeks election as the Regional Vice President of the National Congress of American Indians; and

 

WHEREAS, Joe Deere is duly qualified to further the mission of the National Congress of American Indians and fill the position of Regional First Vice President of the National Congress of American Indians; and

 

BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CHEROKEE NATION, that the Cherokee Nation Tribal Council, which is the legislative body of the above-named tribe, hereby supports Joe Deere to run for and fulfill the Office of the Regional Vice President for the National Congress of American Indians.
