A RESOLUTION AUTHORIZING THE PLACEMENT OF LAND IN TRUST - HAAS
Body
WHEREAS, the Cherokee Nation since time immemorial has exercised the sovereign rights of self-government in behalf of the Cherokee people;
 
WHEREAS, the Cherokee Nation is a federally recognized Indian Nation with a historic and continual government to government relationship with the United States of America;
 
WHEREAS, Cherokee Nation has acquired property in Cherokee County, Oklahoma, more particularly described as follows:
 
The S2 NE4 SW4 and the South 17.47 acres of Lot 3 and the North 17.45 acres of Lot 4, all in Section 19, Township 16 North, Range 22 East, containing 54.92 acres, more or less, according to the United States Survey, thereof.
 
WHEREAS, Cherokee Nation desires to have said property placed United States of America in Trust for Cherokee Nation.  The property is vacant pasture land, lying immediately adjacent to and west of the current Cherokee Casino in Tahlequah.   The Casino rests on United States of America in Trust for Cherokee Nation property.   The building currently housing the Casino will soon be vacated by the Casino and will become a part of the Sequoyah School system.
 
BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CHEROKEE NATION, that the Principal Chief of the Cherokee Nation, Chadwick Smith, and/or his authorized designee(s) be authorized to request the Secretary of the Interior to place said tract of land United States of America in Trust for Cherokee Nation in accordance with Bureau of Indian Affairs policy and procedure for the acquisition of land.
