A RESOLUTION AUTHORIZING CHEROKEE NATION ENVIRONMENTAL PROGRAMS GROUP TO SUBMIT A FORMAL GRANT APPLICATION TO THE U.S. ENVIRONMENTAL PROTECTION AGENCY HAZARDOUS WASTE MANAGEMENT PROGRAM FOR TRIBES

WHEREAS, the Cherokee Nation since time immemorial has exercised the sovereign rights of self-government in behalf of the Cherokee people;
WHEREAS, the Cherokee Nation is a federally recognized Indian Nation with a historic and continual government to government relationship with the United States of America;
WHEREAS, the Cherokee Nation has established the Environmental Protection Commission and the Environmental Programs Group to protect public health, welfare and the environment;
WHEREAS, the Cherokee Nation has previously received hazardous waste funding from the US EPA Tribal Hazardous Waste Office to address hazardous waste management issues on or near tribal lands and to preserve and protect lands of the Cherokee Nation;
WHEREAS, the Hazardous Waste Management grant will remove household pollutants from the environment, which could have the potential to have a negative impact on the health of Cherokee citizens and the environment;
BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CHEROKEE NATION, that the Environmental Programs Group is authorized and directed to apply to the U.S. E.P.A. for a grant under the Hazardous Waste Management Program for Tribes.
