Title
A RESOLUTION REQUIRING THE IMPLEMENTATION OF A CHEROKEE TRIBAL PREFERENCE POLICY ON ALL NON-TRUST LAND LEASES EXECUTED BY THE CHEROKEE NATION
Body
WHEREAS, the Cherokee Nation since time immemorial has exercised the sovereign rights of self-government in behalf of the Cherokee people; and,

WHEREAS, the Cherokee Nation is a federally recognized Indian Nation with a historic and continual government to government relationship with the United States of America; and,

WHEREAS, the Cherokee Nation owns several tracts of non-trust property within its jurisdictional boundaries, a portion of which is leased to individuals for agricultural uses; and,
WHEREAS, it would be beneficial to the Cherokee Nation to give preference to Tribal Citizens when such property is leased; and,

WHEREAS, a policy of Cherokee Nation tribal preference concerning land leases would encourage the use of tribal lands by tribal citizens thereby providing economic opportunities to the Cherokee people; and,

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the Cherokee Nation through its Tribal Council, that a policy of Cherokee Nation Tribal preference be imposed for tribal land leases administered by the Cherokee Nation and that said policy be reported to the Tribal Council upon implementation.
