A RESOLUTION AUTHORIZING THE SUBMISSION OF A SPECIAL GRANT APPLICATION TO THE HERD DEVELOPMENT GRANT PROGRAM WITH THE INTER-TRIBAL BUFFALO COUNCIL
Body
WHEREAS, the Cherokee Nation since time immemorial has exercised the sovereign rights of self-government in behalf of the Cherokee people; and,
 
WHEREAS, the Cherokee Nation is a federally recognized Indian Nation with a historic and continual government to government relationship with the United States of America; and,
 
WHEREAS, the Cherokee Nation engages in numerous agricultural endeavors and is desirous of expanding activities within this field for the betterment of the Cherokee Nation and its Citizens; and,
 
WHEREAS, in September of 2013, the Council approved the application for tribal membership in the Inter Tribal Buffalo Council, which  now provides eligibility to apply for funding for the FY14 Herd Development Grant Program; and,
 
WHEREAS, Cherokee Nation Natural Resources requests approval from the Council to submit a grant application for at least seventy-five thousand dollars ($75,000.00) which will provide assistance to officially establish the Cherokee Nation Buffalo Operation as a potential self-sustaining business endeavor, which will create economic endeavors for the Cherokee people and reintroduce Buffalo into the Cherokee culture as it relates to cultural and historical significance; and, therefore,
 
BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CHEROKEE NATION, that the Council approves the Natural Resources Department of the Cherokee Nation to submit a grant application to Inter Tribal Buffalo Council for the FY14 Herd Development Grant Program.
