A RESOLUTION RECOGNIZING SHERIFF JERRY PRATHER OF ROGERS COUNTY AS A CHEROKEE CITIZEN OF HONOR AND DISTINCTION
Body
WHEREAS, The Cherokee Nation, since time immemorial has exercised the sovereign rights of self-government on behalf of the Cherokee People; and
 
WHEREAS, The Cherokee Nation is a federally recognized Indian Nation with a historic and continual government to government relationship with the United States of America; and
 
WHEREAS, Sheriff Jerry Prather is a citizen of the Cherokee Nation and has dedicated over 30 years of his life to protect and serve the people of Rogers County and the City of Claremore; and
 
WHEREAS, Sheriff Jerry Prather will retire from the office of Rogers County Sheriff on December 31, 2008; and
 
WHEREAS, Under Sheriff Prather's direction, the Rogers County Sheriff's office has delivered the fourth lowest crime rate in Oklahoma when the top three counties have smaller populations of 10,000 or less; and
 
WHEREAS, Sheriff Prather and his wife, Myrtle of 41 years, have raised a respected family and have been pillars of the Rogers County community their entire lives; and
 
WHEREAS, The people of Rogers County and the Cherokee Nation have benefited greatly from the service of Sheriff Jerry Prather.
 
NOW THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE CHEROKEE NATION that Sheriff Jerry Prather be recognized as a Cherokee citizen of honor and distinction and is entitled to all the rights and privileges thereto.
