A RESOLUTION RECOGNIZING CHEROKEE NATION CITIZEN JOE POLECAT
Body
WHEREAS, the Cherokee Nation since time immemorial has exercised the sovereign rights of self-government in behalf of the Cherokee people;
WHEREAS, the Cherokee Nation is a federally recognized Indian Nation with a historic and continual government to government relationship with the United States of America;
WHEREAS, the Council often recognizes Cherokee Citizens who have been creative, hard-working, and have achieved many successes; and,
WHEREAS, on September 29, 2016, Security Officer Polecat and Security Manager John Paden saw a large amount of smoke in the vicinity of the cultural grounds and when they arrived Cherokee Citizen/Security Officer, Joe Polecat, contacted Cherokee Nation Marshals Service dispatcher and requested the fire department. Security Officer Polecat took immediate action and used his unit’s and Security Manager Paden’s unit fire extinguishers to try to contain the fire. Security Office Polecat instructed Security Manager Paden to locate a water hose at the nearest residence and hook it up on the faucet located at the rear of the residence to start watering down the property near the residence. Security Officer Acorn then arrived on the scene at the time the fire was within 15 feet of the residence. Acorn and Paden started watering the property while Polecat was at the front of the fire using extinguishers. With Polecat’s experience as a volunteer fire fighter and quick thinking along with his concern for others, Polecat saved both homes that were in the path of the grass fire.
WHEREAS, the Council of the Cherokee Nation wishes to recognize Polecat for his work and dedication as a security officer and volunteer fire fighter and all his successful services.
BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CHEROKEE NATION, the Council of the Cherokee Nation hereby recognizes Cherokee Citizen, Joe Polecat, for his service to citizens of the Cherokee Nation as a security officer and voluntee...
