A RESOLUTION AUTHORIZING CHEROKEE NATION ENVIRONMENTAL PROGRAMS TO SUBMIT AN APPLICATION TO THE U. S. ENVIRONMENTAL PROTECTION AGENCY FOR AN INDIAN GENERAL ASSISTANCE PROGRAM REGIONAL TRIBAL OPERATIONS COMMITTEE SUPPORT GRANT

Body

WHEREAS, the Cherokee Nation since time immemorial has exercised the sovereign rights of self-government in behalf of the Cherokee people;

WHEREAS, the Cherokee Nation is a federally recognized Indian Nation with a historic and continual government to government relationship with the United States of America;

WHEREAS, the Cherokee Nation has established the Environmental Protection Commission and Environmental Programs to protect public health, welfare and the environment;

WHEREAS, the Cherokee Nation has previously received funding from the EPA Indian General Assistance Program;

WHEREAS, the Indian General Assistance Program Regional Tribal Operations Committee (RTOC) Support Grant will plan and coordinate EPA Region 6 RTOC meetings in FY 2008 and provide travel reimbursement for RTOC members.   

BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CHEROKEE NATION, that the Tribal Council hereby authorizes Cherokee Nation Environmental Programs to submit a formal application to the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency for an Indian General Assistance Program Regional Tribal Operations Committee Support Grant, and that the Principal Chief (or his designee) shall be authorized to conduct contract negotiations and execute all official documents in this regard.
