A RESOLUTION AUTHORIZING APPLICATION FOR NATIONAL PARK SERVICE GRANT TO SURVEY HISTORIC ROSE COTTAGE SITE

Body

WHEREAS, the Cherokee Nation since time immemorial has exercised the sovereign rights of self-government on behalf of the Cherokee people;

WHEREAS, the Cherokee Nation is a federally recognized Indian Nation with a historic and continual government to government relationship with the United States of America;

WHEREAS, the Cherokee Nation Tribal Historic Preservation Office is desirous of participating in the National Park Service’s Historic Preservation Fund Grants- In Aid program for the purpose of surveying and categorizing the historical significance of the Rose Cottage site and cemetery.

WHEREAS, preservation of historical sites of significance to Cherokee history is of utmost importance to Cherokee Nation;

WHEREAS, Rose Cottage has been deemed a historical site of significance to Cherokee history as the historic home of Chief John Ross;

WHEREAS, the Rose Cottage site is fully encompassed on Cherokee Nation owned property within Park Hill, Oklahoma.

BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CHEROKEE NATION, that the Tribal Council hereby certifies full support of the application for the National Park Service’s Historic Preservation Fund Grants- In Aid program, for the purpose of surveying and categorizing the historical significance of the Rose Cottage site and cemetery.
