Title

A RESOLUTION NOMINATING HOWARD (ᎤᏓᏩᏗᏍᎬ) PADEN AS SECRETARY OF LANGUAGE AND CULTURE OF THE CHEROKEE NATION

Body

WHEREAS, the Cherokee Nation since time immemorial has exercised the sovereign rights of self-government in behalf of the Cherokee people; and,

WHEREAS, the Cherokee Nation is a federally recognized Indian Nation with historic and continual government-to-government relationship with the United States of America; and,

WHEREASLA-04-24 <https://cherokee.legistar.com/View.ashx?M=F&ID=12622284&GUID=455C90DB-3F2B-48B9-8246-B58F1CD543B8>, Sec 4, §4 of the the Durbin Feeling Language Preservation Act authorizes the Principal Chief to establish the cabinet position of Secretary of Language and Culture to serve a term coextensive with the Principal Chief of the Cherokee Nation; and,

WHEREAS, The Principal Chief has nominated Howard (ᎤᏓᏩᏗᏍᎬ) Paden as Secretary of Language & Culture of the Cherokee Nation to fullfill the duties thereof; and,

WHEREAS, Howard Paden is duly qualified to fill this vacancy.

BE IT THEREFORE RESOLVED, BY THE CHEROKEE NATION, that Howard (ᎤᏓᏩᏗᏍᎬ) Paden is hereby confirmed as the Secretary of Language & Culture of the Cherokee Nation as Authorized by Title 31, Chapter 6, §608 of the Cherokee Nation Code Annotated as term of office coextensive with the Principal Chief, said term ending August 14, 2027.
