Title
A LEGISLATIVE ACT ESTABLISHING STANDING COMMITTEES FOR THE COUNCIL OF THE CHEROKEE NATION, AND THE PROCEDURES FOR NAMING COMMITTEES
Body
WHEREAS, the Cherokee Nation of Oklahoma is a federally recognized Indian Tribe, organized in accordance with a Constitution approved
by the Commissioner of Indian Affairs on September 5, 1975 and ratified June 26, 1976; and
WHEREAS, it Is recognized there is need to establish certain Standing Committees so as to more properly conduct and carry out the business of the Cherokee Nation of Oklahoma.
NOW THEREFORE BE IT ENACTED BY THE CHEROKEE NATION, the Council of the Cherokee Nation does hereby repeal any and all Resolutions, Bills or Laws pertaining to establishing Committees and the duties and procedures thereof,
BE IT FURTHER ENACTED that the Council does hereby establish the following Standing Committees: (1) Community Development (2) Constitution Revision (3) Economic and Industrial Development (4) Education (5) Employment
and Training (6) Election (7) Executive and Finance (8) Health
(9) HIP/Environmental Health (10) Inter?Tribal Council of Five Tribes
(11) Land (12) Personnel (13) Roads (14) Registration (15) Social Services.
BE IT FURTHER ENACTED that membership on all Standing Committees shall be by appointment of the Deputy Principal Chief with nominations for
said appointments coming from the Council of the Cherokee Nation. Without good cause shown, no appointment of a nominee shall be denied. All nominations shall be brought before the Council for approval and confirmation. The Council shall set the number of members to serve
on the Committees and shall define the duties of the Committees. The Principal Chief and Deputy Chief shall serve as non?voting Ex Officio members of any Standing Committees.
