RESOLUTION NO. 37-01
COUNCIL OF THE CHEROKEE NATION
A RESOLUTION AUTHORIZING THE CHEROKEE NATION INSTITUTIONAL
REVIEW BOARD FINAL APPROVAL OF RESEARCH PROTOCOLS
WHEREAS, the Cherokee Nation since time immemorial has exercised the sovereign rights of self-government on behalf of the Cherokee people;
WHEREAS, the Cherokee Nation is a federally recognized Indian Nation with a historic and continual government to government relationship with the United States of America;
WHEREAS, the Cherokee Nation Council approved Resolution #67-97 establishing the Cherokee Nation Institutional Review Board and bestowing final approval of all research protocols with the Tribal Council; and
WHEREAS, the present flow process for research protocol is often a hindrance to the researcher and may deter researchers from conducting research at Cherokee Nation;
THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CHEROKEE NATION, that final approval of research protocols will reside with the Cherokee Nation Institutional Review Board, except for those whom the researcher's funding agency secures a resolution and those involving tribal matching funds. The Cherokee Nation Institutional Review Board will report any approved protocols to the Health Committee and Tribal Council.
