Title
A BILL TO REPEAL LEGISLATIVE ACT #1-81 AND TO ENACT LAW NO. 3-83 PERTAINING TO THE SALARIES AND TRAVEL EXPENSES OF THE PRINCIPAL CHIEF, DEPUTY CHIEF AND COUNCIL MEMBERS
Body
WHEREAS, the Cherokee Nation of Oklahoma is a federally recognized Indian Tribe, organized in accordance with a Constitution approved by the Commissioner of Indian Affairs on September 5, 1975 and ratified June 26, 1976; and
WHEREAS, it is recognized there is a need to establish salaries and set travel expenses for duly elected officials of the Cherokee Nation of Oklahoma,
NOW THEREFORE BE IT ENACTED BY THE CHEROKEE NATION; the Council of
the Cherokee Nation does hereby repeal Legislative Act #1-81 and establish the following:
(1) The salary of the Principal Chief shall be $42,500.00 per annum, plus $500.00 per month for travel within the fourteen county area of the Cherokee Nation.
(2) The salary of the Deputy Principal Chief shall be $32,000.00 per annum, plus $500.00 per month for travel within the fourteen county are of the Cherokee
Nation.
(3) Council Members shall not receive a salary. They shall receive $300.00 per month for travel plus $25.00 per official meeting attended of Standing Committees of the Council. No Council Member shall be reimbursed for more than four (4) Committee meetings for a calendar month. In addition, any Council Member traveling 120 miles or more roundtrip to attend regular Council Meetings or official Committee meetings shall be reimbursed actual and necessary expenses, i.e., meals and lodging. Proper receipts must be documented and submitted to the Accounting Department of the Cherokee Nation.
(4) The Principal Chief, Deputy Chief, Council Members and others who are on official business for the Cherokee shall be reimbursed for all actual and necessary expenses incurred for travel outside the fourteen (14) county area of the Cherokee Nation of Oklahoma. Proper receipts mus...
