Body
WHEREAS, the Cherokee Nation since time immemorial has exercised the sovereign rights of self-government in behalf of the Cherokee people;
 
WHEREAS, the Cherokee Nation is a federally recognized Indian Nation with a historic and continual government to government relationship with the United States of America;
 
WHEREAS, the Cherokee Nation recognizes that the early detection of breast and cervical cancers greatly reduces the morbidity and mortality of these diseases;
 
WHEREAS, the Cherokee Nation recognizes that public education, professional development, screening, and case management for the early detection of breast and cervical cancer can greatly improve health outcomes for Cherokee women;
 
WHEREAS, the Cherokee Nation has developed and managed a successful Breast and Cervical Cancer Early Detection Program that has been successfully implemented to provide screening and early detection services to thousands of Cherokee women.
 
BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CHEROKEE NATION, that the Cherokee Nation Cancer Program, a program of the Health Services Group will respond to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) funding opportunity for the National Breast and Cervical Cancer Early Detection Program to continue to provide breast and cervical cancer early detection services to Cherokee women.  In addition to screening, the program will continue to include surveillance, professional development, referral to the Oklahoma Medicaid Breast and Cervical Cancer Treatment Program, public education, provider development and evaluation.
