Body
WHEREAS, the Cherokee Nation since time immemorial has exercised the sovereign rights of self-government in behalf of the Cherokee people;

WHEREAS, the Cherokee Nation is a federally recognized Indian Nation with a historic and continual government to government relationship with the United States of America;

WHEREAS, the Cherokee Nation desires to preserve and protect the Cherokee language for its citizens and for future citizens of the Cherokee Nation;

WHEREAS, the Cherokee Nation can document pre-existing, planned involvement and support of the community for the development of plans and programs to preserve and protect the Cherokee language for its citizens and for future citizens of the Cherokee Nation;

WHEREAS, the Cherokee Nation does commit to providing $70,000 through in-kind service via existing staff, equipment and facilities for the budget year to preserve and protect the Cherokee language and valuable archival materials (print, video, audio, etc) for its citizens and for future citizens of the Cherokee Nation;

WHEREAS, the Cherokee Nation does designate the Principal Chief as signatory and negotiator on behalf of the Cherokee Nation to preserve and protect the Cherokee language for its citizens and for future citizens;

WHEREAS, the mission of the National Endowment for the Humanities Advancing Knowledge: The IMLS/NEH Digital Partnership explores new ways to share, examine, and interpret Cherokee audio, video and written text collections in a modern digital format that allows the development of a comprehensive Cherokee Nation digital library for large audiences of Cherokees to promote the development of programs or activities to preserve and enhance tribal heritage and culture and to assist tribes in assuring the survival and continuing vitality of their tribal language, culture and history;
