A RESOLUTION AUTHORIZING THE FAMILY ASSISTANCE DEPARTMENT TO SUBMIT AN APPLICATION TO THE UNITED STATES DEPARTMENT OF HEALTH AND HUMAN SERVICES TO FUND FIFTEEN ELDER NUTRITION SITES AND THE CHEROKEE FAMILY CAREGIVER SUPPORT PROGRAM

Whereas, the Cherokee Nation since time immemorial has exercised its sovereign power of self-government on behalf of the Cherokee people;
Whereas, the Cherokee Nation is a federally recognized Indian Nation with a historic and continual government-to-government relationship with the United States of America;
Whereas, the Cherokee Nation has had extensive experience administering Social Services to assist the Nation's elders;
WHEREAS, the funding period will be from April 1, 2008 to March 31, 2011.
BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CHEROKEE NATION, that the Council hereby authorizes an application be submitted to the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services, Administration on Aging, for a grant to fund the Cherokee Nation Caregiver Program, Title VI Part A (elder nutrition) and Part C (Native American Caregiver Support Program), and that the Principal Chief, or his designee be authorized to execute any official documents in this regard.
