A RESOLUTION AUTHORIZING THE SUBMISSION OF A JUVENILE ACCOUNTABILITY DISCRECTIONARY GRANT APPLICAITON

WHEREAS, the Cherokee Nation since time immemorial has exercised the sovereign rights of self-government in behalf of the Cherokee people;
WHEREAS, the Cherokee Nation is a federally recognized Indian Nation with a historic and continual government to government relationship with the United States of America;
WHEREAS, the Cherokee Nation is committed to the health of its families, and committed to drug free communities;
WHEREAS, drug courts, also known as Healing to Wellness Courts, have established records of high success rates across the country, including Indian Country;
WHEREAS, the Cherokee Nation received a grant for planning and implementation for a Healing to Wellness Court and sent ten individuals from various disciplines within the tribe to training sessions for setting up a Tribal Healing to Wellness Court, and that said individuals have now developed a format and curriculum for said Healing to Wellness Courts.
BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CHEROKEE NATION, that the Cherokee Nation Healing to Wellness Court Administrator and/or his designee is hereby authorized to submit a grant application to the U.S. Department of Justice, Office of Juvenile Justice and Delinquency Prevention, for a Juvenile Accountability Discretionary Grant to expand the Court into Mayes and Sequoyah counties.
