A RESOLUTION AUTHORIZING THE SUBMISSION OF AN INDIAN COMMUNITY DEVELOPMENT BLOCK GRANT FOR CHEROKEE ELDER CARE STILWELL
Body
WHEREAS, the Cherokee Nation since time immemorial has exercised the sovereign rights of self-government in behalf of the Cherokee people;
 
WHEREAS, the Cherokee Nation is a federally recognized Indian Nation with a historic and continual government to government relationship with the United States of America;
 
WHEREAS, Cherokee elders represent a segment of Cherokee communities with special health, physical, emotional  and nutritional needs who may be at risk if these needs go unmet;
 
WHEREAS, Cherokee Nation wishes to expand on the demonstrated success of the Cherokee Elder Care program to meet the documented need by extending services to eligible elders located in the Stilwell area of the tribal jurisdiction service area;
 
WHEREAS, Cherokee Elder Care will continue to provide stable jobs for tribal citizens, maintain the culture and traditions of the Stilwell community, and safeguard the health and safety of frail Cherokee elders;
 
WHEREAS, the Cherokee Nation aggress to maintain the facility and provide maintenance activities, repairs, capital improvements, and necessary insurance for the facility and equipment.
 
BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CHEROKEE NATION, that an Indian Community Development Block Grant application may be submitted to the Department of Housing and Urban Development for the construction of Cherokee Elder Care Stilwell;
 
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED BY THE CHEROKEE NATION, that the Principal Chief (or his designee) shall be authorized to conduct negotiations and execute all official documents in this regard.
