A RESOLUTION HONORING GEORGE ANDERSON BENGE AS AN ELDER CHEROKEE OF GREAT DISTINCTION
Body
WHEREAS, the Cherokee Nation since time immemorial has exercised the sovereign rights of self-government in behalf of the Cherokee people; and,
 
WHEREAS, the Cherokee Nation is a federally recognized Indian Nation with a historic and continual government to government relationship with the United States of America,
 
WHEREAS, the Cherokee Nation has elders in their communities, that thru their life experiences keep honored traditions and history alive; and
WHEREAS, the Cherokee Nation is cognizant of the benefit these elders bestow upon the Cherokee Nation's present and future generations; and
 
      WHEREAS, elders who reach the century age mark are to be honored and recognized as a symbol of the ever-present strength of the Cherokee Nation.
 
      WHEREAS, George Anderson Benge, born on November 17, 1909, in Braggs, Oklahoma, is a Cherokee Citizen who has reached the centennial mark and has deep and full connections with Rogers County, which has benefited the Cherokee Nation and its people.
 
      NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the Cherokee Nation through its Tribal Council that George Anderson Benge, a citizen of the Cherokee Nation born on the 17th day of November, 1909, is to be recognized and honored as a Cherokee citizen of distinction with all rights and privileges thereof.
