APPROVAL OF THE CHEROKEE NATION TRIBAL COUNCIL COMPUTER USAGE POLICY

PURPOSE

To provide guidelines to Cherokee Nation Tribal Council members for acceptable use of electronic information resources. These resources include but are not limited to computer hardware, email, internet, software or any other electronic information device.

POLICY

It is the policy of the Cherokee Nation Tribal Council to ensure that all Councilors utilize internet, email or other technological and informational resources for Cherokee Nation business purposes only.

PROCEDURE

A. Responsibility
1. Acceptable uses of the Internet and Cherokee Nation e-mail
a. To facilitate Tribal Council business communication in a more efficient and effective manner
b. To use email and internet in a productive manner

2. Unacceptable uses of the internet and Cherokee Nation e-mail
a. For transmitting, retrieving or storage of any communication of a discriminatory or harassing nature or materials of obscene or x-rated nature; (Cherokee Nation Tribal Council reserves the right to determine what is obscene or x-rated)
b. For transmitting derogatory or inflammatory remarks about an individuals race, age, disability, religions, national origin, physical appearance
c. For transmitting abusive, profane or offensive language
d. For any purpose which contrary to Cherokee Nation, State or Federal law
e. For the purpose of solicitation of non-Cherokee business
B. Communications
1. All communication sent by Tribal Councilors via the Cherokee Nation email/internet systems must comply with this policy and may not disclose any confidential or proprietary Cherokee Nation information unless authorized by Cherokee Nation Law.
C. Software
1. To prevent computer viruses from being transmitted through the Cherokee Nation’s email/internet system, there will be no unauthorized downloading or installing of any software. All software must be registered to the Cherokee Nation. Tribal Councilors should contact MIS...
