A RESOLUTION DECLARING "TSA-LA-GI, WE ARE MANY" AS THE NATIONAL ANTHEM OF THE CHEROKEE NATION

WHEREAS, the Cherokee Nation, from time immemorial has exercised the sovereign rights of self-government on behalf of the Cherokee People; and
WHEREAS, the Cherokee Nation is a federally recognized Indian Nation with a historic and continual government to government relationship with the United States of America; and
WHEREAS, the Cherokee Nation is a sovereign nation and exercises all attributes of nationhood; and
WHEREAS, an important vestige of a sovereign nation is the identification citizens have with a National Anthem; and
WHEREAS, a National Anthem that bestows honor and respect is a recognized practice and custom among sovereign nations; and
WHEREAS, "Tsa-La-Gi, We are many" written by Becky Hobbs, is a widely recognized song that gracefully depicts the undying and unyielding spirit of the Cherokee People; and
WHEREAS, the Nancy Ward Society, which is comprised of descendants of Nancy Ward "Beloved Woman" who is an honored historical figure within the Cherokee Nation has passed a resolution recommending that "Tsa-La-Gi, We are Many" become the National Anthem of the Cherokee Nation.
WHEREAS, the establishment of "Tsa-La-Gi, We are Many" as the National Anthem of the Cherokee Nation will be beneficial to the Cherokee People.
BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CHEROKEE NATION, that "Tsa-La- Gi, We Are Many" be established and declared as the National Anthem of the Cherokee Nation and that it be played at appropriate functions of the Cherokee Nation.
