A RESOLUTION AUTHORIZING THE SUBMISSION OF A GRANT APPLICATION TO THE DEPARTMENT OF JUSTICE UNDER THE COORDINATED TRIBAL ASSISTANCE SOLICITATION
Body
WHEREAS, the Cherokee Nation since time immemorial has exercised the sovereign rights of self government in behalf of the Cherokee people; and
 
WHEREAS, the Cherokee Nation is a federally recognized Indian Nation with a historic and continual government to government relationship with the United Sates of American; and
 
WHEREAS, the U.S. Department of Justice has initiated a consolidated grant application process for tribes that provides for application for up to ten discrete programs in one package designated as the Coordinated Tribal Assistance Solicitation 2010; and,
 
WHEREAS, the Cherokee Nation has identified program service gaps and needs that might be addressed by programs under this process; and,
 
WHEREAS, such needs are addressed through the Methamphetamine Reduction Program under COPS and the Justice Systems and Alcohol and Substance Abuse Program within BJA;
 
WHEREAS, such programs total amounts of $199,041 for Methamphetamine and $500,000 for Alcohol and Substance Abuse such other amount as may be negotiated resultant to application and review; and
 
WHEREAS, it is in the best interests of tribal citizens to provide such services and protection
 
BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CHEROKEE NATION, that the Tribal Council approves the submission to DOJ and accepts the above listed amounts or any other amount that may be subsequently awarded in the negotiation process.
