A RESOLUTION PROVIDING FOR THE DONATION OF SURPLUS EDUCATIONAL SUPPLIES FROM SEQUOYAH HIGH SCHOOL TO PEAVINE ELEMENTARY SCHOOL IN ADAIR COUNTY

Body

WHEREAS, the Cherokee Nation, since time immemorial has exercised the sovereign rights of self-government on behalf of the Cherokee People; and

WHEREAS, the Cherokee Nation is a federally recognized Indian Nation with a historic and continual government to government relationship with the United States of America; and

WHEREAS, the Cherokee Nation Education Department, through Sequoyah High School, has in it possession, equipment that has been determined surplus, namely:

1.      Lockers - 6 sets

2.      5 Tables

3.      20 Office Chairs

4.      1 Stainless Steel Sink

5.      1 Television with stand

6.      2 Metal Book Shelves

7.      3 Black Rolling Carts

8.      90 Stacking Chairs

9.      1 Treadmill

WHEREAS, it would be beneficial to the Cherokee Nation to donate said equipment to schools within the Cherokee Nation; and,

WHEREAS, Peavine Elementary School is a school with grades Kindergarten through eighth grade located in Adair County.  This school is in a rural area and the vast majority of its students are of Cherokee descent.

NOW THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE CHEROKEE NATION that the surplus equipment held by Sequoyah High School, namely:

1.      Lockers - 6 sets

2.      5 Tables

3.      20 Office Chairs

4.      1 Stainless Steel Sink

5.      1 Television with stand

6.      2 Metal Book Shelves

7.      3 Black Rolling Carts

8.      90 Stacking Chairs

9.      1 Treadmill

Be donated to Peavine Elementary School of Adair County, to be used for the benefit of Cherokee Students.
