A RESOLUTION AUTHORIZING THE SUBMISSION OF A GRANT APPLICATION TO THE DEPARTMENT OF HEALTH AND HUMAN SERVICES, ADMINISTRATION FOR CHILDREN AND FAMILIES OFFICE OF FAMILY ASSISTANCE, CHILD CARE BUREAU FOR TRIBAL MATERNAL, INFANT AND EARLY CHILDHOOD HOME VISITING GRANT PROGRAM
Body
WHEREAS, the Cherokee Nation since time immemorial has exercised the sovereign rights of self-government in behalf of the Cherokee people;
 
WHEREAS, the Cherokee Nation is a federally recognized Indian Nation with a historic and continual government to government relationship with the United States of America;
 
WHEREAS, the Cherokee Nation supports the development of healthy, happy successful children and families;
 
WHEREAS, home visiting programs are intended to promote positive outcomes such as improvements in maternal, infant and child health and development;
 
WHEREAS, the Department of Health and Human Services, Administration for Children and Families and the Health Resources Service Administration are collaborating to implement a home visiting program in Tribal communities;
 
WHEREAS, the Cherokee Nation has the capacity to conduct needs assessments; plan, develop, and implement evidence-based maternal, infant, and early childhood services;
 
WHEREAS, the Child Care and Development Department wishes to cooperate and collaborate with various programs serving women, children and families in tribal communities that result in high quality early childhood systems.
 
BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CHEROKEE NATION, that the Tribal Council hereby authorizes Human Services to develop and submit a grant application for Maternal, Infant and Early Childhood Home Visiting Program activities; and
 
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that the Principal Chief, Chad Smith, and/or his designee be authorized to sign documents necessary to submit said application on behalf of the Cherokee Nation.
