RESOLUTION NO. 74-88
AUTHORIZING THE LIVING NATIONAL TREASUITS-MASThR
CRAFTSMAN SERIES OF THE LOST ARTS PROGRAM
WHEREAS, The Cherokee Nation of Oklahoma is a federally recognized Indian Tribe, organized in accordance with a constitution approved by the Commissioner of Indian Affairs on September 5, 1975 and ratified June 26, 1976; and
WHEREAS, The Cherokee Nation is interested in achieving and maintaining a desireable measure of prosperity by promoting and retaining the cultural identity of the Cherokee Nation through promotion and acknowledgment of living national cultural treasures.
WHEREAS, the Living National Treasures-Master Craftsman designation will achieve this objective by official acknowledgment and recognition of the best individual examples of the Cherokee culture. This will be done by recognizing those individual persons who have made major contributions or a lifetime commitment to perpetuating the Cherokee culture.
WHEREAS, the Cherokee National Historical Society is cooperating with the Cherokee Nation with plans to house the documentation of this activity in the National archives.
NOW THEREFORE BR IT RESOLVED BY THE CHEROKEE NATION, that the Living Treasures- Master Craftsman Program shall be instituted as a sanctioned activity of the Cherokee Nation.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that the chosen living national treasures shall be bestowed with the honor as an official national designation.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that Principal Chief Wilma P. Mankiller and/or her authorized designee(s) be authorized to sign documents necessary to secure such grant funding on behalf of the Cherokee Nation of Oklahoma.

The foregoing resolution was adopted by the Council of the Cherokee Nation at a duly called meeting on the 13th day of August , 19 88 having 15 members
present, constituting a quorum, by the vote of 15 yea; 0
nay; 0 abstaining.
