A RESOLUTION AUTHORIZING THE SUBMISSION OF THE CHEROKEE NATION'S INTEGRATED RESOURCE MANAGEMENT PLAN GRANT PROPOSAL TO THE BUREAU OF INDIAN AFFAIRS

WHEREAS, the Cherokee Nation since time immemorial has exercised the sovereign rights of self-government in behalf of the Cherokee people;
WHEREAS, the Cherokee Nation is a federally recognized Indian Nation with a historic and continual government to government relationship with the United States of America;
WHEREAS, United States Federal law and regulation require federally recognized Indian Tribes to conduct natural resource management-related activities under a specific, DOI-formatted/approved "Integrated Resource Management Plan";
WHEREAS, the Cherokee Nation desires to operate under the principles of self-governance, self-determination, and sound natural resource stewardship/management;
WHEREAS, the Cherokee Nation has gauged community desires regarding natural resource management and determined the proposed Cherokee Nation Integrated Resource Management Plan to be adequate in addressing all of these aforementioned criteria.
BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CHEROKEE NATION, that the Nation approves submittal of an Integrated Resource Management Plan Development Project to the US DOI BIA.
