WHEREAS, the Cherokee Nation since time immemorial has exercised the sovereign rights of self-government in behalf of the Cherokee people;
 
WHEREAS, the Cherokee Nation is a federally recognized Indian Nation with a historic and continual government to government relationship with the United States of America;
 
WHEREAS, a goal of the Cherokee Nation Department of Children, Youth and Family Services is to provide prevention, diversion and emergency shelter services to promote the health and welfare of children, youth and families;
 
WHEREAS, the Cherokee Nation Department of Children, Youth and Family Services is applying for funding in the amount $70,000.00 to supplement the operations of emergency shelter and supportive services of the John A. Ketcher Youth Services Center.
 
BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CHEROKEE NATION, that an application for Youth Shelter Services be developed by the Department of Children, Youth and Family Services and submitted to the U.S. Family and Youth Services Bureau, Runaway and Homeless Youth Program; and
 
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED BY THE CHEROKEE NATION, that the Principal Chief, Chad Smith and/or his designee be authorized to sign documents necessary to submit said contract on behalf of the Cherokee Nation.
