A RESOLUTION AUTHORIZING CHEROKEE NATION ENVIRONMENTAL PROGRAMS TO SUBMIT A FORMAL GRANT APPLICATION TO THE U. S. ENVIRONMENTAL PROTECTION AGENCY FOR THE INTER-TRIBAL ENVIRONMENTAL COUNCIL SUPERFUND PROGRAM

Whereas, the Cherokee Nation since time immemorial has exercised its sovereign power of self-government on behalf of the Cherokee people;
Whereas, the Cherokee Nation is a federally recognized Indian Nation with a historic and continual government-to-government relationship with the United States of America;
Whereas, the Cherokee Nation has established the Environmental Protection Commission and the Environmental Programs Group to protect public health, welfare and the environment;
Whereas, the Cherokee Environmental Programs Group serves as the lead tribe for the Inter Tribal Environmental Council (ITEC) and in that role, has the privilege of partnering and working with other Tribes throughout EPA Region 6 to promote environmental protection and protect the health of tribal citizens;
Whereas, a grant under the EPA Superfund program will advance these purposes.
BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CHEROKEE NATION, that Cherokee Nation Environmental Programs is authorized to submit a formal application should the proposal be selected for said project, and that Chad Smith, Principal Chief (or his designee) shall be authorized to conduct contract negotiations and execute all official documents in this regard.
