A RESOLUTION AUTHORIZING THE SUBMISSION OF THE ADMINISTRATION OF NATIVE AMERICAN ESTHER MARTINEZ GRANT
Body
WHEREAS, the Cherokee Nation since time immemorial has exercised the sovereign rights of self-government in behalf of the Cherokee people;
 
WHEREAS, the Cherokee Nation is a federally recognized Indian Nation with a historic and continual government to government relationship with the United States of America;
 
WHEREAS, the Cherokee Nation has operated an education system within its territory since the infamous Trail of Tears;
 
WHEREAS, the Cherokee Nation currently owns and operates the Cherokee Charter Immersion School, serving approximately 125 students pre-school ages through 8th grade, developed to teach Native American students Cherokee Cultural by providing educational instruction in Cherokee.   
 
WHEREAS, the Cherokee Nation currently operates Sequoyah High School, a federally and tribally funded boarding school, serving approximately 370 Native American Students.  
 
WHEREAS, the Cherokee Nation strives to revitalize the Cherokee language by continuing to develop educational curriculum in the Cherokee Language.  
 
WHEREAS, the Cherokee Nation strives to increase parental involvement in students' educational careers, starting with pre-school age students.  
 
BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CHEROKEE NATION, that the application to submit a proposal for the Administration of Native American, Esther Martinez Language Revitalization Grant, submitted by Cherokee Nation Education Services, a copy of which is attached hereto, is hereby approved.
