A RESOLUTION AUTHORIZING THE PLACEMENT OF LAND IN TRUST - BEAVER 140 ACRES IN ADAIR COUNTY
Body
WHEREAS, the Cherokee Nation since time immemorial has exercised the sovereign rights of self-government in behalf of the Cherokee people;
WHEREAS, the Cherokee Nation is a federally recognized Indian Nation with a historic and continual government to government relationship with the United States of America;
WHEREAS, Cherokee Nation acquired property in Adair County, Oklahoma lying adjacent to a tract of land held in Trust for Cherokee Nation by the United States of America. The timbered property is northeast of Starr Killer Lake in southwest Adair County. The Adair County property is further described as follows:
Indian Meridian, Oklahoma, Adair County
Township 14 North, Range 24 East,
Section 26, S2 S2 NW, E2 SW AND N2 NW SW.
WHEREAS, Cherokee Nation desires to transfer fee title to United States of America in Trust for Cherokee Nation under the provisions of Title 25 of the Code of Federal Regulations.
BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CHEROKEE NATION, that the Principal Chief of Cherokee Nation, Bill John Baker, and/or his authorized designee(s) be authorized to request the Secretary of the Interior to place said tracts of land in Trust for Cherokee Nation in accordance with Bureau of Indian Affairs policy and procedure for the acquisition of land.
