Title

A RESOLUTION AUTHORIZING THE DEVELOPMENT AND SUBMISSION OF A GRANT APPLICATION TO THE DEPARTMENT OF EDUCATION FOR A NATIVE AMERICAN CAREER AND TECHNICAL EDUCATION PROGRAM

Body

WHEREAS, the Cherokee Nation since time immemorial has exercised the sovereign rights of self-government on behalf of the Cherokee people;

 

WHEREAS, the Cherokee Nation is a federally recognized Indian Nation with a historic and continual government to government relationship with the United States of America;

 

WHEREAS, the Department of Education, Office of Vocational and Adult Education, is accepting funding applications for programs to increase education levels of adults in vocational technology;

 

WHEREAS, there are many individuals in need of vocational education in order to enter jobs and become self-sufficient;

 

WHEREAS, Career Services is currently utilizing this grant to administer the Business Technology and Child Development Occupations classes; and

 

WHEREAS, Career Services has both the expertise and experience to develop and operate a high quality, successful program and desires to continue providing these services.

 

BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CHEROKEE NATION, that the Tribal Council hereby authorizes Career Services to develop and submit a grant application to the Department of Education for the Native American Career and Technical Education Program.

 

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that the Principal Chief, Bill John Baker, and/or his designee be authorized to sign documents necessary to submit said Plan on behalf of the Cherokee Nation.
