A RESOLUTION AUTHORIZING A MEMORANDUM OF UNDERSTANDING BETWEEN CHEROKEE NATION AND THE UNITED STATES DEPARTMENT OF AGRICULTURE
Body
WHEREAS, the Cherokee Nation since time immemorial has exercised the sovereign rights of self-government in behalf of the Cherokee people;
 
WHEREAS, the Cherokee Nation is a federally recognized Indian Nation with a historic and continual government-to-government relationship with the United States of America;
 
WHEREAS, the citizens of the Cherokee Nation engage in agriculture, including various farming and ranching activities;
 
WHEREAS, barriers exist that prevent Cherokee Nation citizens from realizing the full economic opportunities of their agricultural activities, such as slaughter capacity and supply chain issues;
 
WHEREAS, the United States Department of Agriculture has expressed interest in assisting the Cherokee Nation in identifying and removing barriers to agricultural development for the tribe and its citizens;
 
BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CHEROKEE NATION, that the Office of the Principal Chief is authorized to enter into a Memorandum of Understanding with the United States Department of Agriculture for the purpose of identifying and removing barriers to agricultural development for the Cherokee Nation and its citizens.
