A RESOLUTION ALLOWING FOR THE SALE OF CHEROKEE NATION AFFINITY TAGS BY THE STATE OF OKLAHOMA
Body
WHEREAS, the Cherokee Nation since time immemorial has exercised the sovereign rights of self-government in behalf of the Cherokee people; and,
WHEREAS, the Cherokee Nation is a federally recognized Indian Nation with a historic and continual government to government relationship with the United States of America; and,
WHEREAS, the Cherokee Nation cannot, at this time, provide car tags to its citizens residing outside the jurisdictional area of the Nation; and,
WHEREAS, Cherokee Citizens living outside the jurisdictional area are desirous to have car tags that would proudly show their citizenship in the Cherokee Nation; and,
WHEREAS, the Cherokee Nation would like for the State of Oklahoma to provide car tags for Cherokee Nation citizens living outside the jurisdictional area of the Nation that show their citizenship in the Nation; and,
WHEREAS, the State of Oklahoma may furnish such tags under 47 O.S.()1135.5 (OSCN 2013) to support and provide financial assistance for non-profit organizations; and,
WHEREAS, the Cherokee Nation would like for the beneficiary of proceeds from the sale of such tags be the Cherokee Nation Foundation;
BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CHEROKEE NATION, that the Council of the Cherokee Nation hereby gives permission for the sale of such tags and for the use of the Seal of the Cherokee Nation to be used on such tags,
AND BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that nothing in this Resolution will affect the present or any future compact between the Cherokee Nation and the State of Oklahoma as relates to car tags.
