A RESOLUTION AUTHORIZING CHEROKEE NATION ENVIRONMENTAL PROGRAMS GROUP TO SUBMIT A FORMAL GRANT APPLICATION TO THE U.S. ENVIRONMENTAL PROTECTION AGENCY OFFICE OF ENVIRONMENTAL JUSTICE FOR A SOLID WAS MANAGEMENT GRANT

WHEREAS, the Cherokee Nation since time immemorial has exercised the sovereign rights of self-government in behalf of the Cherokee people;
WHEREAS, the Cherokee Nation is a federally recognized Indian Nation with a historic and continual government to government relationship with the United States of America;
WHEREAS, the Cherokee Nation has established the Environmental Protection Commission and the Environmental Programs Group to protect public health, welfare and the environment;
WHEREAS, the Cherokee Nation has received solid wast funding from the US EPA Region 6 for assisting ITEC member tribes;
WHEREAS, a Solid Waste Management grant will advance the purposes of the Inter-Tribal Environmental Council by offering ITEC member tribes solid waste management assistance.
BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CHEROKEE NATION, that the Environmental Programs Group is authorized and directed to appy to the U.S. E.P.A. for a Solid Waste Mangement grant and that Bill John Baker, Principal Chief (or his designee) shall be authorized to conduct contract negotiations and execute all official documentsin this regard.
