A RESOLUTION IN RECOGNITION OF WES WELKER, A CITIZEN OF THE CHEROKEE NATION, FOR HIS OUTSTANDING ATHLETIC ACCOMPLISHMENTS
Body
WHEREAS, the Cherokee Nation since time immemorial has exercised the sovereign rights of self-government in behalf of the Cherokee people; and,

WHEREAS, the Cherokee Nation is a federally recognized Indian Nation with a historic and continual government to government relationship with the United States of America; and,

WHEREAS, it is beneficial for the Cherokee Nation to advance the quality of life of its citizens and for all peoples of Oklahoma; and,
WHEREAS, it is always important to recognize the achievements of our Cherokee Nation Citizens who show great skills, accomplishments, and examples for others; and
WHEREAS, we want to recognize Wes Welker, a Citizen of the Cherokee Nation, for his outstanding athletic accomplishments as the New England Patriots’ Wide Receiver:

1. So far, in his career, and for the 2012 season, in the Patriots’ Week 1 win over Tennessee Titans, Welker tied former Patriots receiver, Troy Brown’s, franchise record for receptions, and Welker took sole possession of the franchise record for receptions (557 ) to become the Patriots all-time leaders in receptions on September 16, 2012. During Game 13, Welker, with 12 receptions, set the NFL records for the most games with 10 or more receptions tying him with 49ers legend and Hall of Famer, Jerry Rice, completing this task in Welker’s 17th game and also setting the NFL record for most games with 10 or more catches and 100 or more yards.

2. And he has broken a tie with those retired NFL stars and has now become the first player with 100 receptions in five different seasons; and,
3. Welker earned five consecutive Pro Bowl honors following the 2008, 2009, 2010, 2011 and 2012 seasons.
