A RESOLUTION TO COLLOBORATE WITH THE STATE DEPARTMENT OF EDUCATION TO PRESERVE TRIBAL HISTORY, CULTURE, LANGUAGE AND SYLLABARY
Body
WHEREAS, the Cherokee Nation since time immemorial has exercised the sovereign rights of self-government in behalf of the Cherokee people; and,  
 
WHEREAS, the Cherokee Nation is a federally recognized Indian Nation with a historic and continual government to government relationship with the United States of America; and,
 
WHEREAS, it is important to preserve our tribal history, culture and traditions and to take actions as necessary to keep alive our language and syllabary for all generations in the future so they can also continue to preserve our tribal culture and history and language and syllabary; and,
 
WHEREAS, creating collaborative partnerships with the Oklahoma State Department of Education and other schools and school officials, other tribes and the Bureau of Indian Education will contribute to the preservation of our tribal history, culture, language and syllabary; and, therefore,  
 
BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CHEROKEE NATION, that the Council hereby  supports the Cherokee Nation to partner with the Oklahoma State Department of Education to integrate Cherokee Culture into Oklahoma common Core lesson plans and collaborate with other school officials, tribes and the Bureau of Indian Education to provide meaningful hands on traditional activities, develop culturally accurate teaching tools and produce Cherokee specific reading and enrichment materials accomplished by curricular mapping for common core practices and Oklahoma Common Core lesson plans and making resources readily available on the websites of the Cherokee Nation and the Oklahoma State Department of Education.
