A RESOLUTION CREATING THE CHEROKEE NATION ART PURCHASING COMMITTEE
Body
WHEREAS, the Cherokee Nation since time immemorial has exercised the sovereign rights of self-government in behalf of the Cherokee people;
 
WHEREAS, the Cherokee Nation is a federally recognized Indian Nation with a historic and continual government to government relationship with the United States of America;
 
WHEREAS, the Cherokee Nation treasures the talent of its artistic citizens and respects their desire to share their art by selling their art to the Cherokee Nation;
 
WHEREAS, to secure the fairness of art purchases, a committee named the Cherokee Nation Art Purchasing Committee shall be created to approve the purchase of art for all Cherokee Nation entities, departments, agencies and tribally owned corporations and businesses and the Committee shall create policies and procedures to approve the purchase of art from Cherokee Nation artists and other artists and shall submit to the Council for approval; and,
 
WHEREAS, the Cherokee Nation Art Purchasing Committee shall be composed of five (5) members-two members shall be Cherokee National Treasures.  Two (2) committee members shall be appointed by the Council, two (2) shall be appointed by the Principal Chief and one (1) shall be selected by those four appointees who shall be confirmed by the Council; and, therefore,
 
BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE CHEROKEE NATION that the Cherokee Nation Art Purchasing Committee shall be established to secure the fairness of art purchases which shall consist of five (5) members (two of which shall be Cherokee National Treasures) and once established, the committee shall create policies and procedures for purchasing art and shall submit them to the Council for approval.
