A RESOLUTION AUTHORIZING THE DEVELOPMENT AND SUBMISSION OF A GRANT APPLICATION TO THE DEPARTMENT OF LABOR FOR A YOUTHBUILD PROGRAM
Body
WHEREAS, the Cherokee Nation since time immemorial has exercised the sovereign rights of self-government in behalf of the Cherokee people;
WHEREAS, the Cherokee Nation is a federally recognized Indian Nation with a historic and continual government to government relationship with the United States of America;
WHEREAS, the Department of Labor is accepting funding applications for programs to provide community-based alternative education programs for youth between the ages of 16 and 24 including GED preparation and construction skills training;
WHEREAS, the Housing Authority of the Cherokee Nation and the Cherokee Nation Community Services Department build and rehabilitate housing for low-income individuals;
WHEREAS, the Housing Authority of the Cherokee Nation, Cherokee Nation Community Services Department, and the Cherokee Nation Tribal Employment Rights Office (TERO) are committed to supporting the proposed program, including providing non-Federal funds to satisfy the matching requirements;
WHEREAS, there are many individuals in need of alternative education and construction skills training in order to enter jobs and become self-sufficient;
WHEREAS, Career Services has both the expertise and experience to develop and operate a high quality, successful program and desires to continue providing these services.
BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CHEROKEE NATION, that Career Services develop and submit a grant application to the Department of Labor for a YouthBuild Program.
