Body
WHEREAS, the Cherokee Nation since time immemorial has exercised the sovereign rights of self-government in behalf of the Cherokee people; and,
 
WHEREAS, the Cherokee Nation is a federally recognized Indian Nation with a historic and continual government to government relationship with the United States of America; and,
 
WHEREAS, the Cherokee Nation has significant interest in assuring funding for education of Cherokee students in a number of ways and Johnson-O'Malley funding is good resource; and,
 
WHEREAS, according to 25 CFR 273.1, the purpose of the Johnson-O'Malley (JOM) program is to meet specialized and unique educational needs of Indian children attending public and some Tribal schools through the use of supplemental education programs.  
 
WHEREAS, the Council of the Cherokee Nation desires to have the Cherokee Nation Education Department to provide  equal per capita  funding to all eligible JOM students at all public schools within the 14 county jurisdiction of the Cherokee Nation for the FY 15 School Year; and,
 
BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CHEROKEE NATION, the Council of the Cherokee Nation hereby directs the Cherokee Nation Education Department to provide equal per capita funding to all eligible JOM students at all public schools with the 14 count jurisdiction of the Cherokee Nation for the FY 15 School Year; and, therefore,
